The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a National Program o fellowship in Basic Sciences which is in progress since it was initiated. This program is managed and founded by the department of Science and Technology, Government of India. It program is basically to help and encourage those students who are exceptional and have a strong will to pursue their career in science and research.
Under the scheme of program, students with talent and aptitude for research are identified; measured upon their inclination and determination to contribute in the field of science, help them realize their potential to their studies; encourages to frame their careers in Science and Research, thereby serving the country and leading it to the heights in scientific arena.
The advertisement for the KVPY fellowship appears in all the national dailies, usually on the Technology Day i.e., The May 11 and also on Second Sunday of July every year. The selection of students is from those studying in XI standard to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Natural and Basic Science having aptitude for scientific research. Firstly an aptitude test is conducted which the students have to clear. Then after the short-listed students are called for an interview. This is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview are required.
The entire process is carried out by a panel of experts. Generous scholarships are provided up to the pre-Ph.D. level tot eh selected students basic sciences stream SA.
Students currently studying in the XI standard (Science Stream) i.e. in the academic year 2012-13. Also they should have scored a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS AND SCEICNE subjects in the X standard Board examination.
Students both through the Summative Assessments-II conducted by the school and conducted by the Board pattern can apply provide they satisfy the eligibility criteria. It should be taken care that if the student has been assessed by a letter grade in the qualifying examination, he should convert it into an appropriate % and then accordingly fill-up the application form and send it.
Stream SA-Mentoring Scheme:
Eligible students who have already applied for the test need not apply separately of the mentoring scheme.
A mentoring list along will be simultaneously prepared along with a regular merit list. It has to be borne in mind that the students under the mentorship list will not be open to any fellowship. They will be eligible for any fellowship only after they get admission in undergraduate course in Basic Science (B.Sc. /B.S. /Int. M.Sc. /M.S.) after the completion of XII Standard (10 + 2).
During the mentoring period of one year, they will be invited for Summer Programme/Vijyoshi Program and all their expenses including travelling, living etc will be borne by KVPY, Stream SX students that are currently studying in XII Standard with Science stream i.e.
During the academic year 2012-13 and wishing to pursue further graduation in Basic Sciences (B.Sc. /B.S. /Int. M.Sc. /M.S.) for the academic year 2013-14, only if they have scored atleast 80% (70% for SC/St) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board Examination are included in the SX stream.
Stream SB Students currently studying in the 1st year of undergraduation with Basic Sciences i.e.
During the academic year 2012-13 and have secured atleast 60% (50% for SC/ST) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects in the XII Standard Board Examination are included in the SB stream. Empowerment initiative for SC or ST students in the KVPY Fellowship Program Apart from the main KVPY fellowship, there are another fellowships (up to 100) which are exclusively meant of the meritorious students of SC/St under the various streams stated above. These fellowships will be operated; also a special orientation program is organized for the selected SC/ST students.
